Thank you for setting things straight. I, for one, share your feelings. I am not the sligthest embarrassed to be a member of ISKCON. I still have great faith in Srila Prabhupada and his institution. There may be have many mistakes committed by certain members of the institution, but, as I see it, that is only to be expected in these dark times of Kali-yuga. How can it amaze anyone with even a slight understanding of our philosophy that the evils of Kali-yuga will affect ISKCON? To me it indicates a lack of intelligence to think like that. To me it looks like there are many atheistic demons in ISKCON, agents of Kali, who are exploiting any means, like for instance the child-abuse incidents, to disturb the faith of the serious followers of Srila Prabhupada. I find it noteworthy that those who are the most eager to point out the mistakes and faults of ISKCON, are also the ones who don't practice any sadhana worth mentioning. First they critized the GBC, then the institution, and now they are trying to find faults with Srila Prabhupada. Lets not be too disturbed by their self-righteous whining. Of course, that is not to say that everything is peach and pie in ISKCON. Attrocities were committed towards the second generation by certain so called devotees and over-looked or brushed under the carpet by others. And I guess we are all paying for that now. But lets not get hysterical and emotional about it, and give in to the demons inside and outside of ISKCON who are trying to exploit the situation. Lets slash them down by the proper philosophical understanding. I have for instance infinitely more faith in the GBC, despite all their short comings, than I have in people like Rocan and this socalled Dasanudas. Why should we listen to intellectual retards like that? Lets get our priorities straight and revel around Srila Prabhupada and the institution he created for the upliftment of the suffering humanity. Lets defend the teachings of Srila Prabhupada against these vicious onslaughts. ISKCON is still doing wonderful things for the world. In fact, I don't even see the slightest reason for despondency and hopelesness. The dogs may bark but the caravan moves on, albeit very slowly these days. I'm actually not advocating mass resignations, but was simply trying to offer a possible clarification of a point someone else had made. But since you asked: it might help ISKCON's image if devotees who are confronted with the public's reaction could say "yes, this is a very dark chapter of our history and when the leaders found out, they promptly decided to resign out of disgust and shame that they had not been able to protect these most vulnerable members who had been put in their care". It would show that ISKCON was extremely appalled by this abuse at the highest level, and that those in charge took their role as protectors very seriously. But this would obviously only apply to those who were actually in leadership positions at the time. However, having said that, I'm not sure that I agree that this is now the most important step for ISKCON to take. I think there are other ways for teh leadership to show their disgust and horror and to do all they can to bring abusers to justice and get help for the victims.
