Guest guest
> > For anyone who cares, my team won and is now in the league championship > > game. Alas, we lost (good thing I don't derive my sense of self worth from identifying with a futball team). Our goalie couldn't make it so one of our attackers ended up playing goalie. He did a half decent job there, so we probably didn't give up anything because of goalie situation, but it hurt us because we had to replace him with a less talented attacker which hurt our scoring ability and also hurt us in that we couldn't hold the ball forward as well which meant more pressure on the defense. A team needs qualified people in all positions. So does a society. If someone with ksatriya tendencies is acting as a brahmana, even if he is doing an adequate job in an emergency situation as a brahmana, the lack of a ksatriya to create a proper atmosphere for him to function in hurts the society and puts undue pressure on the brahmana. A losing situation. Which can make it hard for those who overidentify with that particular society.

Reestablishing Varnasrama in the society > is a gradual process .... My understanding is Srila Prabhupada said that Varnashrama is present in *every* society at all times in some crude form or the other. What is required is to recognise that Varnashrama, which is already present. We don't have to start it. It is there. Just recognise or I mean acknowledge it. We have brahmanas working on the altar or in the deity kitchen. We have Kshatriyas in some of our divisions like Child Protection Office. We have Vaishyas selling books and devotional paraphernalia. We have Sudras supporting all the above divisions in some way or the other. At the same time a devotee should be expert in everything, which means we should have some overlapping in some time of emergencies. Finally what ever is required has to be done. According to Srila Prabhupada our focus should be on *what* is to be done and not *who* has to do it. We do not have to make some very rigid divisions without any flexibility in the name of "reestablishing Varnashrama" and again later scratch our heads, with burning charcoal. Ofcourse Varnashrama College is required to train up new comers into our society according to their aptitudes or their Dharmas (varnashrama) in the respective duties, of our society. Please correct me if this understanding is wrong. Your humble servant, Bhadra Govinda Das.
