Or it >has to be only transcendental? As Hari Sauri prabhu pointed out recently, an individual may do whatever he or she sees fit. As for the institution, however, we should try our best to ensure that it aims to fulfill the purposes for which it was founded. Srila Prabhupada listed seven purposes when he established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness: (a) To systematically propagate spiritual knowledge to society at large and to educate all peoples in the techniques of spiritual life in order to check the imbalance of values in life and to achieve real unity and peace in the world. (b) To propagate a consciousness of Krishna, as it is revealed in the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagwatam. © To bring the members of the Society together with each other and nearer to Krishna, the prime entity, thus to develop the idea within the members, and humanity at large, that each soul is part and parcel of the quality of Godhead (Krishna). (d) To teach and encourage the sankirtan movement, congregational chanting of the holy name of God as revealed in the teachings of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. (e) To erect for the members and for society at large, a holy place of transcendental pastimes, dedicated to the Personality of Krishna. (f) To bring the members closer together for the purpose of teaching a simpler and more natural way of life. (g) With a view towards achieving the aforementioned Purposes, to publish and distribute periodicals, magazines, books and other writings. If ISKCON's activities serve these purposes, I would suggest that they are certainly authorized. Babhru das
Guest guest
Dear Maharaja , Please accept my most humble obeisances unto your lotus feet. All glories to Srila Prabhupad. If this is the instructions of Srila Prabhupad "that we should not go to the poor areas". What happened to our Philosophy of "Para dukha dukhi".This means that we feel unhappy by seeing others suffering. If we look in this way, it does make sense that it becomes our duty to approach everyone. Because, a Pandit sees everyone equally to including a dog. What to speak about a poor person, who is supposedly to be in the poor area. What I really want to understand is , "did Srila Prabhupad told us not to go to the poor areas." Or else it was an intruction given on due circumstances and not a permanent instructions meant for our society as *a rule*. It creates doubt to me that a Pure devotee like Srila Prabhupad could see it in this way.Like Vasudev Datta, who was feeling so unhappy and said "let me alone suffer and let everyone goes to Vaikuntha." Who is today thinking like this and following in the foosteps of our Vaisnav acaryas. Mukta purusa das.
