Guest guest
Pamho. AgtSP. I first heard this quoted late in 1973 or early '74, but there was a very significant difference in the wording. As I heard it, and I heard it often, Srila Prabhupada said that we, ourselves, should feel personally 50% responsible when someone leaves. Our understanding at the time was that we each had a responsibility to one another as well as to ourselves. The practice was to examine ourselves and consider what we might have done or failed to do, which could have contributed to someone's leaving, and what could we have done or not done to prevent that individual's leaving. The emphasis in this case is on personal growth and self improvement rather than placing blame on others or the society at large. This, I believe, is much more in line with Srila Prabhupada's general mood and instructions. I wish there was an authoritative record of those words. Sometimes devotees were mistreated, offended, etc. by these managers and this caused their devotional service to suffer. Ys, Md
