prasada distribution

---------------------------

That there is tremendous scope for prasada distribution in India has been

highlighted by Madhu Pandit's programs. All temples have the scope to

distribute prasada widely -- indeed it is their duty to do so -- and the

response is sure to be positive. I've seen the wonderful effects at those

ISKCON temples in India where every visitor gets at least a leaf cup of

prasada.

For instance, at ISKCON Baroda, good crowds come every evening and, affluent

and less so alike, happily stand in line to get prasada, which is usually

simple kichadi but sometimes an opulent plateful of varieties. Prasada

distribution to all has definitely much increased the number of visitors and

generated tremendous goodwill and respect for the temple. It's not that

people are hungry, but that they like to take prasada both for the spiritual

benefit and because it's tasty. Devotees also go out almost daily to

distribute prasada in different parts of the city and in outlying villages.

At ISKCON Vallabh Vidyanagar in Gujarat, prasada distribution to all is so

far only on Sundays but it's become a big event. They're now getting almost

3,000 people coming and the number is always increasing -- and VV is a small

place. Many families and groups of friends come walking from several

kilometers, not that they are poor, but because it's still common in Gujarat

to walk to holy places.

Such programs can be started everywhere with little difficulty. Almost all

the ingredients can be donated, for people especially like to donate for

prasada distribution. It doesn't require that many temple devotees be

involved, as congregational members like to help in cutting, cooking,

serving etc. In VV practically the whole program is done by congregational

devotees.

Let's hear some more about prasada distribution programs in India.

LOL

Thank you. I've received a number of responses with devotees relating

their 'prasadam experiences.' They are almost cute to hear because

Prasadam seems to make kids out of the devotees. It's like watching

people talk about ice cream or something.

I will send out some of the other responses I've received. Prasadam is

so endearing because it is pleasing to the heart. It's a treat for the

soul that does the body good. Your post was from Jan (of last year as of

today). What has become of these programs. Are they still going and

growing.
