I would suggest a strong campaign be started on it. I know one ex-gurukuli, Vrindavan dasa, who was there in late 70's when Manihara was doing all his misdeeds. Vrindavana is a good media person and can help organise some sort of campaign. He is really bitter with ISKCON, but he will be willing to assist if I ask him.
