I had Malaria when I lived in Mayapur, but I think I got it in Calcutta.

Later I also had Encephalitis, which is a form of Malaria I think. But I

spent a lot of time travelling, and not exclusively in Mayapur. In three

years there these were the only sicknesses (knocked me out for about a month

in total). I never took any pills, except to cure the disease.

I never really heard of many devotees getting malaria there, but it does

happen sometimes.

The pills may be bad for the liver, but they are not as bad for the liver as

malaria is. Malaria is also the no.1 killer disease in the world. But I

don't take the pills either, even though I've caught malaria twice.

I have heard that Mayapur does not have malaria, but I do not know for sure.

But Calcutta and Vrndavana do. If your friend is only coming for a short

trip, the pills would not do much harm.

Your most humble servant,

Umapati Swami
