As for the comparison between HH BP Puri Maharaja's departure and the Pope's, I find that *slightly* ridiculous: no "letter of condolence" may have been sent by ISKCON (and I'm not even sure that's true), but I think you'll find many ISKCON devotees attended personally, or sent personal messages to HH Bodhayan Maharaja and other disciples of His Holiness---same as when HH Tamal Krishna Maharaja left, and HH Sridhara Maharaja. None of the maths in Mayapur turned out in droves or sent official letters that I know of. Seems Vaisnavism has a bit of a more pragmatic approach to leaving one's body; a "letter of condolence" doesn't seem appropriate in such circumstances, yet is highly appropriate when dealing with those whose tradition it is to honor such a small, simple gesture.
