Guest guest
Dear Basu Ghosh Prabhu, PAMHO. AGTSP! Here is the promised pramana: >From Prameya Ratnavali 8.6 by Srila Baladeva Vidyabhusan Prabhu: He quotes the Padma Purana verse which I previously cited and one by one explains each of the five samskaras. For the 3rd samskara (naama) he comments as follows: naamaatra gaditam saddhir hari-bhrtya-tva bodhakam "The 'giving of the name' means that one must bear a name which designates one as a servant of Hari. Technically, we are not receiving the holy name from the guru, but rather, we receive mantras, specific combinations. At the time of second initiation we receive gayatri mantra chanted in our ear, and at the time of first initiation we receive the Hare Krishna mahamantra, both chanted by the guru as well as through the beads chanted on by the guru. So it is not a single process of five samskaras divided into two time frames, as I have heard sometimes stated. For an initiation to be in accordance with sastra, all five angas must be present. Thus both of our initiation processes as observed in ISKCON are separate processes with separate mantras given and separate results achieved. Sannyas diksa also has these five elements.
