Guest guest
The statement in Hari nama cintami is that usually nama abhasa can give liberation(purification from karma) but not the lotus feet of Krsna . Pure nama or suddha nama gives Krsna. Ajamila was purified of his sinful reactions, and got an extension of life, during which he performed real devotional service, which qualified him for the spiritual world when he left his body. Theoretically one could attain the feet of Krsna by pure chanting without diksa. Bhakti Sandarbha says that diksa (secret mantras for puja and meditation) is given as a pancaratrika vidhi in order to perform arcana, which is helpful for controlling the senses as it gives engagement. This is quoted in a CC purport, after Hari dasa says that diksa is not dependent on diksa etc. Jiva goswami even says that from the bhagavata point of view (just chant the nama), diksa ( and thus arcana) are not necessary, but we combine both paths , so therefore we take diksa. (this is in another place in Bhakti sandarbha, which I previously mailed to Basu ghosh.) usually there is a distinction between mantra and nama in sansrkt and bengali , but this is not always brought out in English, since we also call Hare Krsna a mantra.
