Sorry, Nayanaranjana Prabhu, "compilation" does not imply that he is

composing something new. For example, I can also compile various different

scriptures, and, indeed, many books from the BBT are simply compilations of

Srila Prabhupada's older books and recorded conversations. Does that mean

the compiler of those sources has created a "scripture"? Isvara vacana is

not such a cheap thing.

If you look at Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu, it is full of quotes from the

Puranas, Rupa-Goswami has not said anything for which there is not a basis

in sastra (Vyasa's words, isvara vacana). If the works of devotees after

Vyasa could be considered identical with Vyasa's works, then there would be

no need for them to be based on Vyasa's works, because another unique

characteristic of shastra is, according to Vedanta-sutra: sastra yonitvat

(Vs. 1.1.3):

"According to the Vedanta-sutras (sastra-yonitvat), the Supreme Lord is the

author of all revealed scriptures, and all revealed scriptures are for

knowing the Supreme Lord." (SB 2.5.15 purport)

Since, as affirmed in the above quote, and as in the quotes to which you are

responding, AN ESSENTIAL, UNIQUE QUALITY OF SASTRA IS THAT IT IS DIRECTLY

WRITTEN BY THE LORD.

"Compiling" something and "composing" something are quite different, and

with regard to your above reference, it cannot mean that Rupa Goswami is

"creating", or "writing" shastra. He is compiling evidence FROM

Bhakti-shastras and representing them, NOT creating them.
