I was not born in a very high family. How can I become a guru?" Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says that it is not very difficult. Yare dekha, tare kaha krsna upadesa: "Simply speak whatever Krishna has speaks. Then you become guru." Whoever speaks what Krishna has not spoken is not a guru but a rascal. A guru only speaks what Krishna has spoken."*** So according to Srila Prabhupada's thinking, (and Lord Chaitanya's), the Absolute appears when someone speaks what Krishna has spoken, and to be a guru is as simple as that. In the SSR (p264), Srila Prabhupada also writes: ***"Similarily the bone fide spiritual master must come in a line of successive spiritual masters. The original spiritual master is God.....One who has heard from God explains the same message to his disciples. If the disciple doesn't change the message, he is a bone fide spiritual master.."*** Again, Srila Prabhupada de-mystified the position of guru for us. It is non-elitist, and non-subjective. Who is the "purest" devotee to hear the same message of Lord Krishna from is not the issue - simply passing the unchanged message is the qualification for being a bone-fide spiritual master, and no jiggery-pokery is involved. You quote: >upadeksyanti te jnanam >jnaninas tattva-darsinah (BG 4.34) >The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you BECAUSE THEY HAVE SEEN >THE TRUTH. (part of the translation). Srila Prabhupada in a class on this verse (Los Angeles, Jan 12, 1969) explains this "seeing the truth" with the verse: "Premamjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena......""....Just like you are in love with somebody, you can see him constantly - he is always on your eyes, anyone you love - so similarily, Krishna also can be seen by development of love....." What more love can someone have than to give up sex life etc. and give their lives to ISKCON and Prabhupada's service?
