Both men and women have > certain rights, although of course these are different. I think this is > what is meant when we say that there cannot be 'equal rights'. My words have no real weight or meaning, but it seems important to voice support for this particular sentiment given here by Krishna Dharma prabhu. Whether conservative or liberal, "fanatic" or not, the sexes being equal or non, it seems very unlikely that Srila Prabhupada would ever condone women being physically manhandled, regardless of the circumstances. If conservative people in ISKCON try to justify it in any form, we/they will only end up looking like heartless devotees. It seems very weird to say anything but that women should not be physically attacked. Equal rights is one thing, but men physically trying to keep women from darshan just does not seem like something our acarya would have ever supported. Just the mental image of it happening in his presence without him demanding it to stop is inconceivable. I have no doubt Srila Prabhupada would be outraged to see such an event, regardless of his instructions to us women on how we might treat our husbands, sannyasis, or men in general. Sorry if I have spoken out of turn, and perhaps I should have read more before responding, but if this is justified in our movement then people we might preach to aren't going to want any part of us. And even though I am conservative, believe in women being submissive and everything that comes with it, the image of men pushing women away from the Deities or hitting them or whatever is heartwrenching and very very discouraging. A woman devotee is still a devotee, isn't she? Your concerned servant, Jayasri devi dasi
