Yes, just look at the sex industry and the number of females vs males who visit sex workers, buy pornography, go to "adult" movies etc. both in India and in the West. Below is another piece of reality that just hit the news wires today. The finding that a large number of Indian women (both rural and urban) are diagnosed with sexually transmissted infections, including HIV, *even though their only sexual contact is with their husbands* has been a very consistent one in Indian clinics during the last decade. "India Has an Alarming Number of HIV-Positive Newborns: UNICEF" Agence France Presse (12/13/99) A new report from UNICEF shows that 30,000 newborns in India are born with HIV every year. The large number highlights the need for an aggressive campaign against HIV, and the need for women to be able protect themselves against diseases. According to UNICEF's Alan Court, 25 percent of 400 women attending clinics in the city of Pune tested positive for a sexually transmitted disease and 13.6 percent tested HIV-positive, yet more than 90 percent reported only having had sex with their husbands. So sad, especially as vertical transmission (i.e. HIV transmission to the fetus/newborn) is virtally 100% preventable these days.
