Guest guest
You are right! If you fast on Varaha Dwadasi till noon that covers Nityanandas appearance day also. If you take one grain or a whole feast your fast is broken. Fasting means without water but if you feel weak Srila Prabhupada said you may take alittle water. ys Bhima das We actually fast for Nityananda Trayodashi and Varaha Dvadashi together on the day of Varaha Dvadashi which happens to be Bhaimi Ekadashi also. A Dvadashi coupled with Ekadashi is known as a Mahadvadashi and is even more auspicious than normal Ekadashis. This particular Mahadvadashi is known as Trisprisa Mahadvadasi which is glorified in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa. Since we have to break Ekadashi on Dvadashi at the parana time either by taking food or water technically speaking we can't fast on Dvadashi till noon. So if there is a great occasion on the next day after Ekadashi for which one has to fast till noon then that fasting till noon is done on Ekadashi. This adjustment is recommended most probably in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa or some other scripture. The experts can give us the exact reference. Your servant, Nayana-rañjana d€sa I looked at my calendar and found out that 15 is actually Dasami, as 14 is Navami (according to the calendar), then 16 is really Ekadasi, moreover there is fast for Lord Nityanada's Appearance, which is on the next day. 15 Ôåâ 2000 Âò Ýêàäàøè G Âèøêóìáà Ìðèãàøèðà 16 Fev 2000 Suddha Ekadasi Fasting for Bhaimi Ekadasi Sri Varahadeva - Appearance (Fasting till noon.) (Feasting is done tomorrow.) 17 Fev 2000 Trayodasi Break fast 07:48 - 10:46 (Daylight-savings not considered). Sri Nityananda Prabhu - Appearance (The fasting is observed till noon on the Ekadasi.) (Feasting is done today.) Am I corect? ys abhinanda das We fast for Varaha appearance on Ekadasi for half a day and not on Varaha dvadasi day. Since we have to break Ekadasi fast on Dvadasi at a particular time in the morning, we do not fast half a day on Varaha dvadasi but instead fast on Ekadasi. Then we continue with Ekadasi prasadam the remaining half of Ekadasi day. On Dvadasi we break fast on morning and take normal prasadam. We do not fast on Dvadasi day. The next day we fast for Nityananda's appearance for half day. 15th - Ekadasi - Fast half a day for appearance of Varaha (tomorrow). 16th - Dvadasi - Break fast in morning for Ekadasi and celebrate Varaha's apperance. 17th - Trayodasi - Fast half a day for Nityananda's appearance. Your servant Radhikesh das We should fast on appearance days of avataras, as we do on janmastami. We should fast on ekadasi, but anukalpa, ie. fruits etc allowed. We should break ekadasi at the proper time on the dvadasi. If an avatara appearance day occurs on a dvadasi, we would be forced to continue fasting for two days, without breaking the ekadasi on the dvadasi. therefore fasting on the ekadasi covers the two fasts, and we break the ekadasi as usually on the dvadasi, not observing the dvadasi fast for the appearance as we have observed the vrata the day before. the worship of the avatara should be done at the time of his appearance if known, otherwise when you prefer. but it is convenient to do the worship early in the morning, break fast of the ekadasi , and feast sometime during the day to celebrate the appearance of the avatara. The half day vrata as mentioned in the calendar is a compromise between full fasting and anukalpa. If the trayodasi vrata followls the next day after dvadasi there is no problem, since you could fast that day and break on the caturdasi. But in ISKCOn we usually dont observe full fast on nityananda trayodasi, taking grains in the evening after the abhiseka. In the case that the dvadasi and trayodasi fall on the same day, one should break the ekadasi fast with some piece of grain, on the dvadasi, then observe the vrata for Nityananda till evening. To be really correct you could fast completely on ekadasi and break the faast on dvadasi with water only, then continue fasting for the appearance of Nityananda. Bhanu Swami . Anyone still confused . I am . Bhanu Swami says to be really correct you could break fast on dvadasi with water only , then continue fasting ....
