Message from Laksminath Das Prabhu

ATTN : Priyadarshini Devi Dasi for posting on notice board

Dear Prabhus/Matajis,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The Food For Life programme is meeting with great success Mozambique. The

programme started on Sunday 12th March and over 7500 plates have already been

distributed in 5 days. The Food For Life team is working in collaboration with

the local authorities who are sending Municipal Council officers to escort

devotees to the refugee camps where massive prasadam distribution is being

done. Flood victims are also being engaged in chanting of the Holy Names - Hare

Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama

Hare Hare.

Hare Krishna Food For Life Programme has also received extensive TV coverage.

Report of prasadam distribution was aired for 2 consecutive days on prime time

evening news to an audience of more than 3 million people.

The Mayor of the City of Matola has expressed his appreciation at the selfless

efforts of the devotees in bringing food to the needy. "Homeless people can

always be relocated in camps and provided with clothing, but what is needed now

is to reach out for the hungry people and feed them", said the Mayor, Mr Carlos

Tembe. And this is precisely what Hare Krishna Food For Life is doing.

Tomorrow (Saturday 18th March), Hare Krishna FFL will be going to Xinavane, a

small village about 2 hours from Maputo City where about 2000 people will be

fed. Next week, the FFL kitchen will work two shifts to prepare about 3500

plates daily.

We are very thrilled to learn that ISKCON has activity going on in Mozambique.

The first ISKCON preachers went there in 1974, I believe Jagatguru and

Ramanuja prabhus, who enrolled about a dozen life members in Maputo and

Quilimane. After that we were never able to go there because of the Marxist

revolutionary government and the bitter Renamo civil war. Most of the members

were improsioned by the Marxist regime and later expelled to Portugal. Please

tell us how we can help you.

Dear Jalakara prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Thank you for the encouraging letter. Laksminatha prabhu and Bhakta Joe,

with the help of three local devotees, distributed more than 20,000 plates

of prasadam under very demanding conditions over a period of about 2-3 weeks

in Mozambique.

A group of us will be going back after a little while. If you or anyone else

would like to help then I think the main things needed would be laxmi for

purchasing bhoga, and books in Portuguese.

We visit there once a year and the response has been wonderful. Now of

course is their great time of need, materially and spiritually, plus it is a

wonderful opportunity for presenting Krishna consciousness. Any assistance

would be appreciated.

Drafts can be mailed to:

ISKCON Food for Life

They can be in the name of ISKCON FOod for Life.

Hoping this meets you well,

Your servant,

Bhakti Caitanya Swami
