Based on the time estimate reported above, Bhakta George Harrison quit his body during this most sacred month of Damodara (Kartika), Gaura paksha (waxing lunar fortnight) and either Caturdasi tithi (14th lunar phase) or Purnima tithi (full Moon, which started just two minutes later than above time estimate). By Vaishnava tradition, the memorial service to honour the departure of a devotee is held on or after the third solar day. So ISKCON temples worldwide can hold his memorial prayers and feast on the same days as their weekly public programs - on Saturday (today) or Sunday. Below is a short report from the Daily Telegraph on the prayers at the Bhaktivedanta Manor. Your servant, Goloka Candra dasa Krishnas mourn 'a good man' By Amit Roy (Filed: 01/12/2001, Daily Telegraph, London) AFTER accepting the non-violent teaching of Krishna, George Harrison came to be accepted by Indians not as a rich pop star indulging himself in a passing fad for the exotic East but as a good man who had found true meaning in life. George Harrison sits with Ravi Shankar at the Albert Hall in 1974 This was evident at Bhaktivedanta Manor, a Hare Krishna temple in Letchmore Heath, Herts, where there was a genuinely emotional reaction at his death. In the main hall Hindu prayers were offered at his garlanded portrait, and next week there will be a formal memorial service. One devotee, Nara Hari, said: "A lot of people have come here to offer flowers and prayers to help him on his journey. We hope Lord Krishna will give him shelter. He wanted to join us full time but he was advised by our Swamiji he could serve Krishna through his music."
