Guest guest
Hare Krsna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I was recently watching a movie of Ramanujacharya, and saw that at the time of his initiation his guru drew the lines of tilak on his body. Remarkably, while chanting the tilak mantras he first marked the lower back with the mantra 'om padmanabhaya namah' and then the upper back with 'om damodaraya namah'. While we in ISKCON are doing the opposite way, with first the upper back then lower back. This made me a little doubtful, and maybe we are doing the wrong way? At least it has been printed like this in our Beginners guide to Krsna consciousness. Maybe somebody who has been with Srila Prabhupada personally can remember something in this regard? How did Srila Prabhupada teach us? Thinking about it for a moment, to me it looks quite logical, in the front we draw tilak from bottom to top, right and left side also, then why in the back do we draw the opposite way?
