Nagpur prison preaching

Nagpur 8 January 2004

At least ten devotees arrived to the central Jail of Nagpur with 82

Bhagavad-gitas, 100 japa mala and 4 buckets of Krishna prasadam. We were

very surprised to see that the prison court was so clean and net. No less

than 300 prisoners were awaiting us.

Our message was that this material world is also a prison with four walls:

Janma, mrityu, jara, vyadhi. Due to some circumstances we may be in the

prison, but we have to use our mind in positive activities. Our body may be

in prison but still our mind is free. Many great personalities like Budha,

Bharata Maharaja, although they were living in nice palaces, with nice food

and so many facilities were not satisfied and went to the forest to mediate

on the Lord. Therefore you also can do this mediation here in the prison.

You can chant and read. If you read half verse of the Bhagavad gita you will

be benefited. One becomes a devotee when he accumulates enough punia, pious

activities. This is the time for you to do pious activities here with your

mind. The mind is higher that the body.

Valmiki's consciousness was so dull that when Narada Muni met him, he gave

him the mantra mara: death. By chanting this mantra he becomes a great sage

that even today we are remembering him. You can also become immortal by

chanting this Hare Krishna mahamantra. If you go on saying Ram Ram Ram you

will automatically become blissful. The soul is looking for higher bliss.

The body can be happy if he has nice place to sleep, nice food and some job.

But the soul is looking for higher happiness, which can be achieved by

remembering the Lord.

When we finished the captain and higher authorities of jail all come to us

and asked for malas. We gave each one of them malas and one Bhagavad gita.

Prasadam was distributed to all. So many prasadam was left and given to be

distributed to other prisoners. We saw some prisoners who have to stay there

for 20 years. While leaving the jail there was eight young Muslims who were

looking very nice and who has just been caught and will be put in Jail. A

young jail captain told us that: "These Muslims are professors and they want

to blast a nationalist Hindu organization."

At the end a nice kirtan was performed and every one looked happy. We did

not have enough malas. Many prisoners were asking for malas. Bhakta Gaurav

promised them that he will bring malas for them.
