Guest guest
Dear devotees, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. This is for the general information of devotees regarding ISKCON Chennai's new location. 1) ISKCON Chennai shifted to its new location about a year back into a small building. The deities Sri Sri Krishna Rukmini Satyabhama, Sri Sri Jagannath Baladev Subhadra, Sri Sri Gour Nitai are placed on the first floor hall of this building. The brahmachari ashram, kitchen etc. are located on the groud floor. 2) A separate temple is under construction. We hope to complete it by Janmashtami this year. Here we will install Sri Sri Radha Krishna Lalita Vishakha. We are working on the plans for our actual project, a gorgeous temple, as Srila Prabhupada wanted in Chennai. 3) There are about 30 full time devotees, including the grhasthas and some congregation members have moved in close to the temple. Several of them have purchased land close by. 4) Every Sunday, we hold a Youth program between 10 am and 11.30 am. From 11.30 am to 2 pm we have bhajans, Bhagavad-gita lecture, arati kirtan and full lunch prasadam. More than 500 devotees participate in the Sunday program. Festival days attract larger crowds, which are therefore held in the open ground. 5) The temple is located off East Coast Road, in a place called Injambakkam. This road has become famous as the ECR and is the best road in the city to drive on. It is built to suit National Highway standards as it connects to Mahabalipuram, Pondicherry and beyond. As such commuting down this road is a quick and pleasant affair. 6) The temple is 30 kms. from the airport (300/- rupees by Taxi) and about 25 kms. From the railway station (200 rupees by Auto/Taxi). These are about 15 kms. extra from our previous location but the major part of this is swallowed up in the quick ride down the ECR. 7) The famous Chennai beach is just 20 minutes walk (1 km.) from the temple and is quiet and clean. Besides, there is a massage center close by. the Buckingham Canal flowing behind our temple also makes a good walking place. 8) We have recently inaugurated a building with one double bath attached room built exclusively for life patrons and visiting devotees. 9) Prasadam is generally served at 9 am and 5 pm. 10) There is also lodging facility available near the temple at the VGP Temple (small rooms) and VGP Beach Resort (cottages). 11) We are eager to take care of sannyasis and have their association. We can arrange transport and prasadam for them. We will also be happy to arrange preaching programs in the temple and in other areas of the city, according to the preacher's convenience, so that we take proper advantage of the association.
