Ganesha Sthuti : traditionally the dancers salute to the elephant headed Lord evoking his divine blessings to destroy all obstacles prior to starting the program. It also describes the lord as a lover of music and all forms of art. 2. Kriti : this beautiful piece, a composition of saint poet Tyagaraja describes the devotee questioning his Lord as to why he can¹t shower pity and bless him. The item depicts episodes of 1) Lord Rama saving the sages during penance from the demons, 2) incarnations of Lord Vishnu, (3) Hanuman communicating to Sita about Rama¹s arrival and destruction of Ravana, the ten headed king of Lanka. 3. Tarangam : This is traditionally the last item of a Kuchipudi dance recital and is composed of intricate footwork and pace. The song describes the enchanting and beautiful form of Lord Krishna and glorifies His pranks and good deeds. The speciality of this item is that the dancers dance on a brass plate and a brass pot is balanced on the head. 6:45 pm: Drama, The Transformation of Valmiki, who went from robber to saint, and is famous as the composer and narrator of the epic Ramayana. 7:00 pm: Anju Thapaliya, Nepali Folk Dances, upbeat, athletic 7:15 pm: **Navia Natyarajan: Bharat Natyam Dance Style 1) Mallari-An invocatory number. Mallari is a traditional number played in temples when Deities are taken out in a procession. 2) Krishnanjali: An offering at the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. This comprises three items. Each of these denotes a different relationship with the Lord. The first item "Pogadhiralo ranga" is where the vatsalya bhava or the tender love between mother Yasodha and Krishna is beautifully brought out. The second number "Thiradha villayata pillai" is where the gopikas are troubled by the childish pranks of Lord Krishna yet the transcendental music emanating form his flute mesmerizes them. The third item is a Meera bhajan "Hari tuma haro". This is the culminating piece expressing the complexities of the divine and the human love. The spiritual yearning of the jeevatma to be united with the pramathma. 3) Thillana: An item known for its intricate footwork and sculptures poses ..This Thillana is in praise of the magnificent form of Lord Krishna. 8:00 pm: Main Event, Pageant of the Ramayana, climaxing in the spectacular burning of 20 ft. high effigy of Ravana with flaming arrows and fireworks. 9:15 pm, Chanting and dancing at the Main Stage OM TAT SAT *SANJAY - SHAMA Both born in families patronizing art have been practicing dance since their childhood. It was this art that drew them together thus making them to pursue and fulfill their dreams of this divine art form. They are both Doordarshan Auditioned Artists and together they have performed in and around Karnataka at various prestigious festivals and occasions receiving a warm response by one and all. They are also recognized actors of both small screen and big screen. They intend to impart knowledge they acquired and thus have been together running their popular school ³ SHIVAPRIYA SCHOOL OF DANCE² sparing no efforts to enrich students of this rich cultural heritage. Recognizing their contribution to the society, the Rotary Club- Kanakapura has awarded them the Œ VOCATIONAL AWARD². They have to their credit several charity programs given to bring cheer to the lesser privileged and old people. Sanjay and Shama have given performances together in various prestigious occasions such as Republic Day Celebrations in Indian Association, Berne-Switzerland, Island Festival- Andaman, Hampi Utsav-India etc. to name the few of the recent performances Shama and Sanjay along with their friend Smt. Anuradha Vikranth have framed the Drishti Art Foundation with the aim of sharing the joy of performing together. The group ha been actively performing at various prestigious occasions including the Island Festival of Andaman, Hampi Festival-Karnataka etc. **NAVIA NATARAJAN Bharat Natyam, the supreme art form which skillfully embodies the three primary ingredients of dance - Bhava, Raga, Thala fascinated Navia at a tender age. In her early years, she demonstrated keen interest and dedication coupled with sincerity and innate talent, She had her arengetram under Smt. Radhika Kalyani (A renowned student of Smt. Chitra ha Visweswaran and Guru K. J. Sarasa) at the age of ten at Madras, Tamilnadu state, India in the year 1989. Rigorous training under Guru Smt. Padmini Ramachandran (Director - NATYAPRIYA, the premier classical Bharathanatyam dance institute, Banglaore, India.) Navia has indeed blossomed into an accomplished dancer, performing all over India and in the United States of America. .. Blessed with natural flair for the art, and relentless single-minded devotion, she has developed into her present status as an elite performing artist. Her abilities were recognized very early on and have been the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, throughout her career. Her elaborate and elite performances have won all round appreciation and accolades from the press and public alike. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND PERFORMANCES Prizes have come her way in all the competitions .. She secured the 1st rank in KARNATAKA BHARATHANATYAM JUNIOR EXAMINATION in the year 1990. .. She is a scholarship holder from CCRT [Centre For Cultural Resources And Training, New Delhi, India, under Cultural talent search scholarship scheme from the age of eleven. She received this from the year of August 1991 to August 1998. .. She was awarded the scholarship in the field of Bharathanatyam dance by the Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India from December 1998 to December 2000. .. She is an "A+" grade auditioned artists of Prasar Bharathi, Broadcasting Corporation of India, Doordarshan, New Delhi. .. She has won the 1st prize for the Bharathanatyam conducted by SOUTH CENTRAL ZONE CULTURAL CENTER, Nagpur at Belgaum, Karnataka in the year 1999 for "Yuva Sangeet Nritya Mahotsava. ..
