Ancient History of Site

 

As stated in the Srimad Bhagavatam, the incarnation of Lord Rishabadeva had

the

specific purpose of re-establishing the system of varnashram. The present

site

on the side of the “Kutakachala” mountain is the exact spot where Lord

Rishabadeva left this mortal world in a forest fire. This Kudachadri

mountain

is also reputed to be the topmost peak of the mountain carried by mighty

Hanuman containing the sanjeevani herbs that revived Sri Ram and Laxman. The

Narasimha Purana gives an exacting description in the Sahyadri Mahatmya and

hallows this spot as the adored adobe of Lord Vishnu in this world and

equates

all the water tirtha’s with the sacred Ganges River in potencies. The

location

is non-different from Vaikunta Dhama in this world. Other various

descriptions

are also elucidated in numerous purana’s & sastra’s such as calling the

sacred

forests surrounding the site as a “siddhi kshetram” where all perfection’s

can

be quickly achieved 1,000's of times faster than when performed in other

places. Lord Krishna & Rukmini, Shankacharya, Ram & Laxman, Garuda, Agastya

Rishi, Kolla Maharishi, etc. all performed lila in this kshetram. The sacred

forests that surround the lands are known as the Ambhavan or the sporting

gardens in this world of Ambika, the divine mother of the universe

(Mahalaxmi).

 

 

 

Brief physical description

 

The site is a self contained cool mountain valley on the seaward side, 2,000

feet above sea level, surrounded on all sides by 500,000 acres of National

forest land. The forests abound with over 64 ayurvedic herbs, hardwoods,

numerous wild fruits, honey and colourful wildlife. There are approximately

50

acres of fertile terraced valley lands interspersed between pasture lands

and

forests. All the lands can be irrigated by perennial gravity flow water 365

days of the year. Dams, water canals and other irrigation facilities are

intact. Exotic fruit trees, flower bearing trees, and ayurvedic medicinal

trees

of diverse variety have been planted in the surrounding high lands. The

location is a popular International vacation spot with waterfalls,

mountains,

caves and temples which are easily accessible by local mountain trekking

trails.

 

 

Infrastructure & facilities

 

 

a. Temple Complex presided over by Sri Sri Gaura Nitai & Srila Prabhupada.

Spacious marble temple room with ancient wooden pillars, doors & windows, 4

bedrooms, two halls, large courtyard, indoor/outdoor kitchens, 4 bathrooms,

ample verandas, and foundation strength for second & third floor

constructions.

 

 

b. 3 pump houses and tool rooms intact with all farming tools, equipment and

irrigation systems .

 

c. 7 room aesthetic guesthouse, fully furnished w/ 4 bathrooms and set in

lush

tropical gardens.

 

 

 

d. 4 independent houses with kitchens and baths.

 

 

 

 

e. Goshalla facilities for 25 cows with present 10 strong herd of pure Red

Sindhi indigenous breed.

 

 

 

f. 40 acres of terraced and gravity irrigated lands for crops such as rice,

pulses, vegetables, sugar cane, ginger, tapioca, banana, pineapple, tumeric,

cardamom, black pepper, etc..

 

 

 

g. Many varieties of young fruit & flower trees, many now yeilding,

coconut, mango, sapota, litchi, cherry, roseapple, mulberry, lemon,

jackfruit,

guava, papaya, fig, champaka, jasmine, kadamba, etc.

 

Some Details

 

The Project is named Bhaktivedanta Eco Village. The project is Pro- Srila

Prabhupada's ISKCON but a separate legal entity. The lands and assets are

held

by a board of trustees under a Society, registered under the Karnataka

Societies Act. There are presently 9 trustees with the President being

Abhirama

Das & the Vice President/ Secretary Tattva Darshan das. Sri Sri Gaura Nitai

presides in an established Temple with observance of all vaisnava festivals.

There is a well run and reputed charitable school with 65 children from

tribal

background acclaimed by state awards in sanskrit mantras, dance, and art &

sculpturing. A cow protection program is underway along with extensive

organic

agriculture. Pilgrims and tourists are accommodated in our guest houses.

Regular transcendental Book distribution.

 

 

 

 

Drawbacks and risks

 

Somewhat remote & rural location, 5 km. dirt approach road, heavy monsoon

rains, and no electricity. Some unfinished construction. Some minor Land

Revenue risks projected to be overcome within this year. Continual financial

shortage causing crunch.
