Guest guest
Dear Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. This may be old news to some, but I thought it was worth writing about. Ashok the tailor in Vrndavana, who makes Deity outfits and mukut pieces for many ISKCON temples, told me the following. He buys peacock feathers for his work from one particular man. One day, the man stopped coming to sell his feathers. A few months later he showed up at Ashok's shop and said he had been caught for poaching (killing peacocks) and had been sent to jail. He also said that two types of peacock feathers are generally sought after and sold by poachers: 1) the small, deep turquoise feathers with no other color on them and 2) the small, lime green feathers with a thin black outline. Because there are not so many of these types of feathers on each peacock and it takes many to make up the mukut pieces, they are in high demand. After hearing this, Ashok would not buy or use those feathers in his work, even though if he did, he would make more money. Someone may have heard something else, but this is what I have heard, and have since stopped buying them.
