Guest guest
For the vaisnavas the mudras originate in the pancaratra sastra. The texts for worship, which are considered historically older are called vaikhanasa. They depend heavily on vedic mantras. The pancaratra texts introduce yantras (geometiric) representations of deities, mudras, non vedic mantras. The mudras according to hari bhakti v. are to give pleasure to the lord. There are different uses: for purification etc. for remembrance of the LOrd: descriptive or symbolic-venu mudra etc. related to the Lord's activities and paraphernelia. for meditation- used during meditation to adjust the prana
