However a spiritual master may decide to add further strictures. I have a check list which details how many times someone should read Bhagavad Gita, SB, and other literatures and what things one should know in order to be qualified for receiving initiation from me. Other spiritual masters, I have heard, also sometimes have special requirements. Srila Prabhupada personally told me that I should read BG 10 times and SB First Canto three times prior to getting first initiation. So taking that as a cue I have also established certain minimum standards that I expect a disciple to come upto to. If anyone needs to have the list of standards they could write me seperately and I could send them a copy for their information. Most of these standards are things that one going through a bhakta program would authomatically know, but often members of the congregation seem to miss out on some point or other. Therefore, I spelled it out as a "check-list" of things they should try to complete prior to coming for first initiation. I hope this helps. I hope that this finds you in good health.
