It is considered that Lord Visnu is resting for these four months. All Acaryas and Srila Prabhupada also observed the minimum fasts at least as a respect. Additionally more austerities can be done. It helps one to do these and it is sinful not to do so according to Hari Bhakti Vilas. I hope that this finds you in good health.
