Eggs are meant to become chickens. They are the embryo of a chicken. Eating animal or bird embryos is something almost barbaric isn't it? It is definitely a tamasic foodstuff. In any case in Krishna consciousness we only eat food offered to Lord Sri Krishna and since it isn't vegetarian it isn't offerable. Of course, for karmi's it will have less karma to eat an egg then something where violence and killing an animal is involved. Like that Srila Prabhupada said if someone wants to eat meat then why not eat the meat after an animal dies naturally? In that case there is no bad karma for eating it. However, it isn't good for spiritual advancement and it isn't prasadam. it is still a tamasic foodstuff, but it doesn't have the karma of killing the animal. I hope that this finds you in good health. Your well wisher, Jayapataka Swami
