I am not sure if there is a specific prohibition against it or it is because they are afraid of offending Narasimhadeva. Generally we see grihasthas prefer worshipping Laksmi Narasimha deva. Srila Prabhupada has mentioned that some Deities are more tolerant and merciful towards offenses then others. Just as His Divine Grace said Nitai Gaura worship is more merciful towards tolerating lapses then say Radha and Krsna Deity worship. Since Ugra Narasimha form is angry and fierce then obviously one has to be more careful to be very proper in matters of Deity worship. Of course the Lord is there to protect His devotees and devotees can take encouragement in that. Yours in service, Jayapataka Swami
