Without effort no result. > As I understand this, the meaning is that the result will be the same no matter what - deer is doomed anyway - if the lion sleeps, destiny will kill the deer, but the lion will not get the satisfaction. Not that by sleeping the deer would live, as Krishna showed Arjuna that the armies would die with or without him. That our effort and desire have **any** effect on the result seems to me to contradict BG 2.47"..and never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities...". Note the "never" - it is a common mistake to slip into for all of us. Thus Arjuna was encouraged to act in Krishna Consciousness on a higher platform - serving Krishna WHILE understanding he was not the doer, or cause of the results. Without "our" effort, we will not get the (passive) benefit of taking part in the result. Sometimes the battle seems to be going against us, sometimes for us, but that shouldn't cause us to create a panic philosophy. Winning is not even important. Better lose with Srila Prabhupada than win the universe without him, though personally I think that's rather unlikely. But winning also means we should in the consciousness Lord Krishna taught Arjuna - understanding we are not the doer.
