To answer the question in your subject line, he's a disciple of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who was initiated when he was a boy. He was the original organizer of communication among and events for gurukula alumni and now spends much of his time writing about spiritual perspectives on the current social order. He's also a great kirtan leader. It's rather difficult to see how he might fit into the class you condemn here, those "who do not believe in spiritual and material equality for women in the name of religion."
