That Srila Prabhupada repeatedly spoke against mundane welfare work and

indicated that even so-called prasada distribution could fall within

karma-kanda is as undeniable as that he wanted widespread prasada

distribution.

 

What I see here are devotees posting apparently conflicting quotes ("Prasada

should be distributed widely" -- "No poor-feeding or mundane welfare work"),

and discussing, some emphasizing one aspect more than another. And the

apparent contradictions seem for most to have been resolved: that prasada

should be distributed widely, but not in the manner or consciousness of

mundane welfare workers. Devotees should be careful to avoid becoming like

charitable fruitive workers or presenting themselves as such.

 

Thus it is a point of concern lest devotees be in such consciousness, or

that indeed such consciousness is at least partially, if not largely,

inherent in many prasada distribution programs today.

 

It is surely better if food is at least perfunctorily offered to Krsna

before being distributed. But it may not be a prasada distribution program

according to the standard that Srila Prabhupada wanted.
