I agree with you; altruism can also be used in the service of Krsna. In fact, it can be considered as the only "positive" service. Then there is the transcendental service; higher. It cares only about the source of the evil, not about the symptoms. A transcendentalist is not a sentimentalist; he is rational! The problem is that some devotees -and we find them in great numbers amongst our leaders- say that these two attitudes are irreconcilable in our vaisnava tradition.
