With all due respect, it's not so surprising. It is obviously something that you feel everyone is conscious of, aware of, because it happened to you. Our own experiences are often foremost in our minds, and with something of this nature it is natural to expect that everyone be aware of it and know about it. But it's not the case - especially because it was not the experience of everyone at that school. That is to be remembered at all times. It happened to some, and not to all. That life for you became "full of pain, starvation, beatings, work, no clothing, bedding etc." is not the case for many at the same school, at the same time. It doesn't make what happened to you any less acceptable, it's simply another perspective that needs to be maintained.
