I obviously didn't want to smash someone for wanting to help abused children. That's a silly idea. What I wanted to smash was the material approach to child abuse, like the one presented here, which I felt is not the business of devotees who are supposed to come up with spiritual solutions. I know that there are devotees in ISKCON engaged in child protection, and I feel confident to leave it to them. I don't need to join some hyped up, unauthorized campaign, and I claim my right to not do so without being called heartless and without compassion. I already wrote a long text explaining that but it seems that the focus somehow always ends up being on mundane sentiments. I would really like to see the discussion rise above that. I honestly would. Ys, jahnu das

Babhru, Thanks for forwarding this mail. I hadn't seen it either, but I think it was due to some COM bug that affected all of us with COM forwarding, not to anyone getting "locked out" (although people may have been listed as "undesirables" by individual members). That was most likely the case for Raghu too. I checked the conference status and he is still listed as an "internet member". Another possibility is that some texts may have been removed, in which case you probably can't comment on them either. I'm glad to hear that Madhumati has been following the discussion. She has much to contribute in the area of child protection. Since she seems to be a good friend of Braja's, hopefully she can convince Braja and Jahnu that statements like they made to Raghu: > Enough has been said. Go away and do your mundane welfare work if that > is what gets you out of bed in the morning. But understand that as > long as you linger here with your unintelligent, unenlightened > sentimental foolishness, I will be here to smash you. I am not going > anywhere. are hurtful and unvaisnava-like. As you pointed out earlier Babhru, this whole "tempest in a teapot" started when Isvara asked about the rumor that former ISKCON child abusers were currently running orphanages in S India. We now have confirmation from Dhira Govinda's office that this is in fact the case (both that they run orphanages and that the investigations conducted by his office concluded that they were abusers. Copies of these reports have been posted on CAP together with addresses to which we can write. I still think the whole discussion was blown way out of proportion by Braja and Jahnu. If they don't like the fact that some of us want to use some of our time to write letters to alert local authorities and media to this fact, that's OK. They don't have to participate. There was never any need to start villifying victims (as per above) or "smash" those who wanted to help. Madhu
