So he had a lot of influence, and he was a very powerful personality, and it seems that is where the concerns stemmed from. Nor did he actively discourage his disciples' fanaticism, which was seen by some as condoning it. I don't believe he did, but he wouldn't do anything to discourge their attachment to him.
