The whole 'credo' comes from a Chinese scroll, which Pancadravida prabhu

presented to Prabhupada in 1977 (although there was a translation discussion

regarding 'purity', and one devotee read it as 'cleanliness').

However, 5 years prior in 1972, Prabhupada wrote in a letter that "books are

the basis", and one year later in 1973, he wrote in a letter that "purity is

the force".

There's no reference to the entire saying other than this room conversation

anywhere on the VedaBase.
