I was awakened to the relevent implications of the above instruction of our spiritual master, through a letter circulated by our godbrother Yasodanandana (formerly Swami), around 1977-8. I don't know what was motivating him, but like the reservations expressed by Pradyumna Prabhu (and others), his objection to the so-called "zonal acarya" system was based on sabda, itihasa, and common sense. Hence it was also ignored, as it clearly threatened theo-political and personal agendas that the GBC was later obliged to admit were factually devious concoctions after all. I think the GBC recently apologized to (some of) these devotees, now that a couple decades have passed and most of those who were involved are long gone. Usually politicians wait until those they've offended are either dead or otherwise no longer pose any possible threat to designs like those mentioned above.
