Guest guest
Could someone please tell me what a kuja-dosa is, and what the good and bad effects of it are? Thank you. Kitri
Guest guest
Om Krishnaay Namah Hi Kitri, Kuja Dosha literally translates to "Mars Blemish". It's a condition that is adverse for married life, and occurs when Mars is in the first (controversial), second (controversial), fourth, seventh, eighth and twelfth. It's presence should be checked from the Lagna, Moon and Venus. This will give some idea of it's impact. There are certain cancellations of this dosha, and again, these are controversial. A good book to see is "Light on Life" by Hart deFouw. But always remember, Kuja Dosha is only one factor. There are many others to see when looking at married life - seventh house, seventh Lord, Venus the Karaka and the Navamsha chart at minimum. It's advisable to see the condition of the Upa Pada and the Chara Dara karaka. Hope it's helped, Hare Krishna, Pursottam --- "COM: Kitri" <Kitri (AT) bbt (DOT) se> wrote: > [Text 2917561 from COM] > > Could someone please tell me what a kuja-dosa is, > and what the good and bad > effects of it are? All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I'd be grateful if you'd let me know what the Upa Pada and Chara Dara karaka are. Many thankls, Your Servant, Rasamandala Das
Guest guest
Om Krishnaay Namah Dear Rasamandala, Hare Krishna. To put it briefly, Dara Karaka is part of a branch of Jyotish popularly known as Jaimini Jyotish, even though Parashara does actually mention the Chara Karakas. Here's some inforamtion about the Chara Karakas which I wrote a few months ago. --------------------------- The Chara Karakas Regardless of sign position, note down the longitudes of the planets (leave out Ketu, upagrahas, outers etc.). The latest planet i.e. the most advanced is the atmakaraka Next the Amatyakaraka Next the bhratrukaraka Next the Matrukaraka Next the Pitrikaraka Next the Putrakaraka Next the Gnatikaraka Next the Darakaraka Before dealing with the significations, lets deal with some of the controversies. AYANAMSHA - As you can imagine, ayanamsha causes big problems. If with Lahiri a planet is at 29º59', with Krishnamurti it becomes 00º05' (approx). Is it atmakaraka or Darakaraka? PRECISION - Do you use only degrees or the degrees, minutes and seconds? Some say that when two longitudes are the same Rahu become the karaka. This is often the case when using only degrees. But when using the full measurement, it is almost never the case. Needless to say, most astrologers favour the full measurements. 7 OR 8? - Since ancient times, another controversy has been whether you use eight karakas, as described above or seven, where you take Rahu as a Pitrikaraka near the Matri. Most astrologers follow the seven karaka scheme where they leave out the Pitrikaraka and Rahu. This includes prominent astrologers such as K N Rao. However, Maharishi's Parashara and Jaimini have advised the use of eight karakas (Seven visible grahas and Rahu), and this is what I have found to be accurate, and advise using. As mentioned, to use the eight Chara Karaka scheme, Rahu is included. Bear in mind two points about noting Rahu's longitude: 1) Always use the mean nodes rather than the true. The true nodes are in fact no truer than the mean. It's just a name. The ancient Jyotish classics tell as that the nodes are ALWAYS retrograde, and therefore, we can work out that it is the mean nodes that the Sages use. Practical experience will confirm this. 2) FOR RAHU ONLY, reckon his longitude from the end of a sign. This is what the Sages recommend. So, in other words, subtract Rahu's longitude from 30, and note it down. Atmakaraka - Significator of the soul As suggested, this represents the self, one's health, ego, destiny, and to an extent, psychology. This is the most important of the Chara Karakas. The Navamsha this is placed in is called the Karakamsha, and this is AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT part of Jaimini Jyotish. More on this later. Amatyakaraka - Significator of the Mind Represents mind, co-workers, subordinates, tendency to materialism, reputation, status, career, ability to influence others. Bhratrikaraka - Significator of Brothers Means brothers, but we all know this means siblings. Courage, decisiveness and determination are also seen from here. Matrikaraka - Significator of Mother It's pretty obvious. Other meaning include domestic happiness, homes and property, cars and family. Pitrikaraka - Significator of the Father Again, very obvious. Putrakaraka - Significator of Children Kids, Intelligence, Spiritual practices, Purvapunya, Rise in Life etc. are the matters of this karaka Gnatikaraka - Significator of other relations Other relatives include cousins, aunts, uncles etc. Also seen are disease, debt, enemies, obstacles and setbacks etc. Darakaraka - Significator of the Spouse Husband or Wife, married life, all about the spouse, work related parnerships etc. AN EXAMPLE OF CALCULATING THE CHARA KARAKAS. This example will hopefully clarify the matter of Chara Karakas: 1) You get the chart, with the precise planetary positions: Planet Ret Sign (Rasi) Degrees Nakshatras -------------------- Ascendant Sagittarius 13° 6' Mula Sun Cancer 5° 7' Pushya Moon Scorpio 26° 58' Jyestha Mars Gemini 0° 13' Mrgashira Mercury Cancer 27° 39' Ashlesha Jupiter Aries 28° 11' Krttika Venus Taurus 28° 44' Mrgashira Saturn R Aquarius 10° 45' Satabisha Rahu Gemini 7° 23' Ardra Ketu Sagittarius 7° 23' Mula Uranus Leo 14° 35' Purvaphalguni Neptune R Libra 21° 48' Visakha Pluto Leo 19° 10' Purvaphalguni 2) You don't need the Lagna, the outers or Ketu, so get rid of them (You don't need sign positions either, but I can't be bothered to get rid of them): Planet Ret Sign (Rasi) Degrees Nakshatras -------------------- Sun Cancer 5° 7' Pushya Moon Scorpio 26° 58' Jyestha Mars Gemini 0° 13' Mrgashira Mercury Cancer 27° 39' Ashlesha Jupiter Aries 28° 11' Krttika Venus Taurus 28° 44' Mrgashira Saturn R Aquarius 10° 45' Satabisha Rahu Gemini 7° 23' Ardra 3) You now have the right planet selection. Now you must subtract Rahu's longitude from 30 degrees. 30d-7d23m = 22d37m. For the purposes of calculating Chara Karaka, you assume this to be Rahu's longitude. So you get: Planet Ret Sign (Rasi) Degrees Nakshatras -------------------- Sun Cancer 5° 7' Pushya Moon Scorpio 26° 58' Jyestha Mars Gemini 0° 13' Mrgashira Mercury Cancer 27° 39' Ashlesha Jupiter Aries 28° 11' Krttika Venus Taurus 28° 44' Mrgashira Saturn R Aquarius 10° 45' Satabisha Rahu Gemini 22° 37' Ardra 4) Now you just go in the order of karakas given above, i.e. from the highest longitude to the lowest. So you should get: Venus as Atmakaraka Jupiter as Amatyakaraka Mercury as Bhratrikaraka Moon as Matrikaraka Rahu as Pitrikaraka Saturn as Putrakaraka Sun as Gnatikaraka Mars as Darakaraka 5) There are some specific ways of using this, but research will teach you much. In the example I have given, Mercury is the Bhratrikaraka, and he is in the eighth. In the Navamsa and Drekkana (Drekkana should always be examined when making judgements about siblings) Mercury is debilitated. Indeed, this person's brother died at birth. In my own case, Narayana Dasa (A Jaimini Dasa based on signs) of Gemini lasts one year. In my horoscope, Gemini is holds the Lord of the third (siblings) and the Chara Bhratrikaraka (siblings also). It was in this year, the Dasa of Gemini that my younger brother was born. Hope it's helped, Pursottam P.S I'm posting something about the Upa Pada separately. __________ Get your free @.co.uk address at http://mail..co.uk or your free @.ie address at http://mail..ie
