The superstitions Hindu astrologers spread are many. Day after tomorrow

Jupiter will enter Simha and many marriages will not be performed. Why ?

Read the following news item. Ofcourse, the reporter has reported it all

with total ignorance. He has mixed two things, the first is Jupiter is in

Simha and the second during the period end of July to October, Venus will be

set, which is not a good period for marriage.

THE TIMES OF INDIA INDIA

Getting married this year? Think again!

NEW DELHI: Those who want to tie the knot this year, beware. Or so warn

priests and astrologers, saying the planet Jupiter will wreak marriages

solemnised this season.

The news has brought gloom not just to prospective brides, grooms and their

families but also to jewellers, caterers and all the others who have turned

marriages into a megabucks show.

The warning goes out especially to people who have Leo or Virgo as their

zodiac signs.

Astrologers say others can go ahead with wedding plans but only after

October 25, and that too only if they please Jupiter -- and the priests.

"This year Jupiter is very strong," said head priest Laxmi Narain Shastri of

the Laxminarain temple. "Jupiter is placed in the sign of Leo, which means

it is ominous for couples that get married."

"It especially means bad tidings for the bride," Shastri says. "People in

Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh

should not marry this year."

He said three stars were important before solemnising any Hindu marriage.

"The Sun, which shows social relationships, the Moon, which symbolises

health, and Jupiter, the star of prosperity. These stars are compared (for a

couple) before marriage.

"Jupiter means prosperity, so how can a marriage survive without it?" he

asked.

Besieged by calls from worried parents of prospective brides and grooms,

priests summoned a meeting in Rajasthan this year.

"We decided that marriages should be performed after October 25 but only

after ceremonies to appease Jupiter and gifts for priests. Then there will

be no problem," said Shastri, who attended the meeting.

=================================

In 1991, we had a meeting in local Birla Mandir of astrologers to discuss

it. I had enough data and Jupiter was in Simha from

15 Aug 1991 to 11 Sept 1992

The usual noise was made.

I reeled off my data after including the marriage dates of some famous

Indians whose good marriage was well known.

We unanimously adopted a resolution stating that this belief had not basis,

no mention in any astrological book. It was a mere belief, with some

modifications from regions to regions. There was no research done by

northern astrologers who spread panic.

Again, that panic is spreading now. I asked six women astrologers who are

doing extensive research on marriages to see their data, nearly of five

hundred couples, and sift those whose marriages were performed twenty or

thirty years ago and when Jupiter was in Simha.

They found among more than thirty they have seen so far, excellent married

life except in one. And the only case too ! is not of divorce or pain but

less prosperity which can be explained through the horoscopes of the

couple.. Jupiter in Simha at the time of their marriage has no relation with

it.

Please examine the horoscopes you have and let me know of similar cases.

Sincerely yours

K.N.Rao.
