Guest guest
Dear Shyamasundara Prabhu, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! This is quite an interesting comment tree you have here. It is especially interesting to me since I know most of the mentioned persons involved. In my opinion, it is yet another moneymaking fraud. These people have no shame in dragging Srila Prabhupada's name into this whole fiasco. In reply to some points in your letter please see the following quotes: TRANSLATION Käçé Miçra continued, “If one engages in devotional service for Your satisfaction, this will result in his increasingly awakening his dormant love for You. But if one engages in Your devotional service for material purposes, he should be considered a number-one fool. PURPORT Çréla Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvaté Öhäkura comments that there are many materialistic persons who become preachers, gurus, religionists or philosophers only for the sake of maintaining a high standard of living and sense gratification for themselves and their families. Sometimes they adopt the dress of a sannyäsé or preacher. They train some of their family members as lawyers and continually seek help from a high court to acquire riches on the plea of maintaining temples. Although such persons may call themselves preachers, live in Våndävana or Navadvépa, and also print many religious books, it is all for the same purpose, namely to earn a living to maintain their wives and children. They may also professionally recite the Bhägavatam or other scriptures, worship the Deity in the temple and initiate disciples. Making a show of devotional paraphernalia, they may also collect money from the public and use it to cure the disease of some family member or near relative. Sometimes they become bäbäjés or collect money on the plea of worshiping the poor, whom they call daridra-näräyaëa, or for social and political upliftment. Thus they spread a network of business schemes to collect money for sense gratification by cheating people in general, who have no knowledge of pure devotional service. Such cheaters cannot understand that by offering devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one can be elevated to a position of eternal servitude to the Lord, which is even greater than the position of Brahmä and other demigods. Unfortunately, fools have no understanding of the perpetual pleasure of devotional service. ============ REF. Antya 9.69 Hari-çauri: Of course, you have so many disciples around the world who are always praying for your health, so ten brähmaëas would not achieve very much. He repeated also what he said before, that the period up until next March would be very difficult time. Prabhupäda: Hm? Hari-çauri: He said that up until next March, that would be a very difficult time. But if Your Divine Grace goes beyond that time, then for three or four years, then health will return. Prabhupäda: Back side itching. Hari-çauri: All the back? Are these astrological charts very much applicable for a devotee, Çréla Prabhupäda? Prabhupäda: No. Hari-çauri: Because Kåñëa can do anything. Prabhupäda: Yes. [break] Tamäla Kåñëa. Tamäla Kåñëa. Tamäla Kåñëa: Yes, Çréla Prabhupäda? Prabhupäda: Don’t waste money for this astrology. Tamäla Kåñëa: Yeah. In London when we were going to get the astrologer to do, when I heard it was expensive, then we cancelled. How much money he is asking here? Hari-çauri: He didn’t say a price. He said it would take two or three days to do a detailed chart. Prabhupäda: It is useless. Better arrange as many hours as possible to chant kértana. That is... Tamäla Kåñëa: Çréla Prabhupäda? Today we did kértana starting in the afternoon till the evening. So do you want more than that? Prabhupäda: I can hear day and night. Tamäla Kåñëa: So should we arrange...? Maybe we should arrange starting in the morning going till night. Prabhupäda: That is according to your convenience. But kértana is very sweet. Hari-çauri: Last June we were doing twenty-four hours. Prabhupäda: That is real business. These astrologer are karmés. We have nothing to do with the karmé. Hari-çauri: Their measurement of happiness and distress is how much nice wife and children they get and how much money they get. Prabhupäda: Yes. Bhägavata reading and kértana... Hm. Hm. Hari-çauri: They don’t understand that the real happiness is giving everything to Kåñëa. Prabhupäda: Yes. Don’t waste time and money in any other way. ============ REF.
