Women should be protected. But what does it mean? Does it mean that the women's freedom should be restricted forcibly? That is sometimes the male idea about protection. I think that if the whole thing is approached in a different way, we will get a completely different result. If the men instead of trying to restrict the women, tried to give women what they want. Make a place for the women in society that makes the women happy and pleased. Then the men will get all the blessings, and the women will not have any desire to interfere with the plans of the men. It is only when the women feel unhappy about their situation, and unprotected, that they take the things in their own hand, and try to displace the men. Try to see it as such as the women allow the men to go around in their affairs, not the other way around. Please the women, and they will let the men do their own things. For women has intelligence for doing men's things also, they just choose not to, and only when it is really necessary, they will make a fuss about it. It is more like a survival instinct, than the chosen way of life. If the men want to be superior, just act in a better way. Don't try to declare yourself "I am superior by birth, by definition", because then women will only laugh at you. Act superior, and you will get respect. If you manage to make the women happy, then the whole society will become happy, because women is what keeps the society together on the social level. Now, in todays society things are really not like this. Men and women are in a war with each other. Both sides have barricaded themselves in different parts of society and both shoots intruders. Unfortunately, it appears like the men's side slowly is loosing ground to the women's. Unfortunately for the men, that is. Some men run away from the battlefield, and take shelter in religious societies, where they feel comparatively secure. But the ISKCON society is not meant as a bombshelter for female attacks. It is meant for building up a completely new society, from the bottom up. What then is the use of building in the same male-female misunderstandings and tensions from the very beginning? What will that lead to? Yes, some men feel very threatened, having retreated so far. Beeing a soldier, it does not feel very good to show a white flag of surrender. But what really are we fighting against? Is this not simply the war of Kali-Yuga? What wrong is it then to just give up, surrender to Krsna, and let things go their way. The women will not eat you alive, like some men might do. They are not dangerous. They just feel unprotected and unsatisfied in society, and want to put it right. You can make a truce with them, and you both sides will benefit. -- your servant Prsnigarbha das
