Dear Radha Krsna prabhu, please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila

Prabhupada!

While reading all the interesting stuff about composting and Sir Albert

Howard and the marvellous composting toilet you created I was wondering if I

could use this somehow for my study (I'm studying horticultural "science" at

a university here in Berlin). Soon I have to make my diploma and have to

write a kind of dissertation for that, and since I would like to write on a

theme which is really of some use in Krsna conscious life later on I thought

why not working about composting methods.

Could you please write me, how I can get some more information about the

sattvik indore toilet (Maybe I would need some Infomaterial for convincing a

professor at the university that this theme is worth writing about it - it's

a little difficult here, because they are really conservative, most of the

professors cling very much on the usual practices in agriculture, I mean

chemical agriculture and nowadays they also like very much genetic

technology and recommend it in their lectures.

Regarding the toilet, I would be especially interested in:

- is it also useable in middle Europe when it is cold outside? What about

the composting process in the winter, ...

- is it possible to use the compost for growing food crops? (of course I

know that it is possible, but they told me at university that there are

heavy restrictions regarding using of compost materials from human an animal

stool for that purpose, at least here in Germany, but I think it's the same

in GB)

- what is the price for one toilet and how could I get one?

I'm moving to the German farm in Bavaria soon, and my idea was to introduce

the compost toilet there (if the devotees there would like it).... And then

I could make my studies there about the amounts of input and output ;-), the

time it takes to compost the material (under bavarian circumstances), the

quality of the compost etc etc and then write my dissertation about it.

I know you have little time because of this big festival in south England,

sorry for this long letter. Hopefully it was not too much disturbing.

Please, if you find the time, I would be very glad if you write me back an

answer.

Your servant, Indriyesa das

Dear Nitya Manjari d.d.

Thank you very much for your interest in the use of the Satvik Indore Toilet

in your studies. Here in England we have had exceptional response from many

persons. The head of the Permaculture Association has our book and has since

ordered the toilet.

This seems to be a revolutionary concept for a seemingly forgotten

'renewable energy' as the head sizemologist in Teneriffe called it. We now

have an additional development for this item and it was contributed by the

Head of Biology of the 'Centre for Alternative Technology' in West Wales.

This addition means that this toilet has a new claim and that is. THE TOILET

YOU NEVER HAVE TO CLEAN OUT. We have a two sided A4 leaflet about it and how

to use and maintain it. We will be printing in colour soon as we now have

outlets in W. Germany and interest in Mauritius. If you buy a quantity we

can give you 20% discount and the wooden cabinet can be made by you or your

frineds and you can make the profit on that as well.

We will be manufacturing a large quantity in India in the next few months

but we have some still available now. To buy one off, costs £100.00 sterling

plus shipping which is relatively cheap as it is made out of fairly light

materials, plus a plastic bottle and a pipe. No other plumbing for

sanitation in your house or out side it is required. The outside

arrangements can run into thousands of dollars and waste an awful lot of

space.

In the UK the charges for sewage metering is going up and some of us are

currently paying more for this than the water coming in (standing charge)

The book I recommend for your studies, 'The Lost Science of Organic

Cultivation' is full of scientific practices, tests and results. The crops

grown on fertilser (compost) made by this Indore method can be doubled in

size and quantity as from chemical farming. Pests and disease will decrease

more and more. Weeds will also be discouraged as they prefer more infertile

and or land lacking in moisture.

I wanted to write a thesis on all the work of Howard, and at a London

conference recently I was offered to get a masters degree in one year, at

Wye College, part of London University (where Howard taught himself). Only

thing is, I see it as a little unecessary as even if I got it I would still

be saying the same thing. My job is now marketing, and here in the UK we

have a team of manager devotees numbering four so far, who want to be

involved; a man in London who wants to market the large scale model (MegaLOO

2000) in Europe, and we are going for our own Web site.

I'm sure you would find it very easy to write an astounding thesis (study)

on the Work of Sir Albert Howard, from this title alone, as his work is

revolutionary in the world of today.

You can get it by mail order from us for £16.00 including post and packing;

please send English pounds to:

R. Higgins,

107 Stanborough Avenue,

Borehamwood,

Herts.

WD6 5LT.

England.

your servant,

Radha Krsna das.
