Guest guest
I saw an ad for some oil company recently which casually mentioned that there was at least enough oil for 20 more years. I guess running out of petroleum is a lot like the year 2000, we think the day will never come. Anyway, I envisioned all these millions of useless cars sitting around. I was thinking that in Northern climates at least, a car could be useful on a self-sufficient homestead, even if it can't drive anywhere. Carol prabhu gave us a nice detailed explanation some time ago about how you could use your car to dry trays of sliced fruits and vegetables. That made me think that abandoned cars should be pointed to face South (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) so that in the spring they can be used for mini-greenhouses to start plant seedlings. The glass can help hold the sun, and if it gets too hot the windows can be rolled down a little. You'd probably have to set the seedling trays up on crates or boxes on the front seat of the car so they would get plenty of sun. Once the seedlings are big enough, you would plant them in the garden. At harvest time, you could dry fruits and vegetables -- even small amounts of grains in your car. Later, when the weather gets cold, you could use the trunk of the car (facing north) as a freezer or refrigerator to store food and keep it cold and out of the reach of animals. Just an idea for the future. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi
