Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to this group and have been interested into yoga for about a year now. I am going for a hernia operation within the next few months and the doctors tell me that I cannot do much weightlifting afterwards which was the body of exercise for me. Is there any techniques that will help me heal faster after the operation? Thanks, Goldie.
Guest guest
Hi Goldie, you're really best discussing this with a physiotherapist who will be able to tell you very specifically what you can and can't do. (Though there may well be someone on the list who's had a hernia operation who can help you out as well.) There are quite a few yoga postures (especially in kundalini yoga which uses the abdominals a lot) that would be contraindicated after a hernia operation for the same reasons weightlifting is not recommended. However, if you want to make sure you heal faster you should probably work with a physiotherapist who can guide your progress. Re-injuring yourself by pushing to hard and fast would obviously slow down your recovery a lot and perhaps set you back even further. Healing is not a process than can be rushed, it requires patience and listening to the body. Good luck! blessings ovasoul
