Here is a question from Swamiji to the group...to your responses.

 

What actions can we take to help

clean Ganga?

 

 

 

Dear Swamiji ~ I am glad I did not miss this digest. Thank you for giving us

another question to challenge our heart and our thoughts.

 

I have read several posts recently that have said that water taken from the

Ganga remains pure, seemingly endlessly from what I can garner. And then there

was the story about the person who was afraid to go into the Ganga for fear

of pollution, and a nearby sadhu said (paraphrase), go on, take the leap. So

from these, it seems that Ganga is ever pure.

 

Yet if She Herself expressed concern about becoming polluted by cleansing

the world, then certainly we must respond to Her. I am not so knowledgeable

about many of these topics, but at the very least, we could pray for Ganga. And

because I have read that often the ashes of the dead are poured into Ganga, we

could dedicate/offer some MahaMritynjaya Mantras to Her. If there is a

special puja for Ganga, perhaps we could offer that (but first, I believe, we

would need for you to translate it for us).

 

I am very aware of the Ganges, but am only beginning to become aware of

Ganga. Perhaps one way of helping Her would be to learn more about Her because

that would aid us in knowing what She needs from us. If, in some way, all water

is related to Ganga, then we could put some water on our altar and dedicate

it to Ganga and then offer blessings, flowers, whatever is appropriate to show

our devotion. And perhaps that is how we can best help Ganga ~ through our

devotion to Her.

I believe that enlivening every molecule with the name of Divine

Mother shatters any impurity in Ganga within and without.
