Ekamban at grand kanchipuram, see! The very Smart One, Who does not eat anything other than alms, see! The Unique at cemetery, see! The immaculate golden Pillar, see! Like the nice hill of grand gem, see! The Pillar of rock, without fail holding up the seven continents, see! Lord of gaNas seen at thieukkALaththi, see! He is in my eyes. Notes: 1. "Is there anybody more poor than our Lord? While we can own grand properties, does God have even a small "worthy" thing to sell and eat?", saint appar puts jocularly a great attribute of Lord shiva. Since we are incomplete and not self reliable we seek things "worthy" to make ourselves better. Our Lord neither has a need to look for betterment being in eternal bliss, nor can It find anything worthy other than Itself!! Isn't that poverty ultimate? vedas also call the Lord "daridra" (poor). (drApE andhasaspate daridran nIlalohita - shrI rudram) 2. Why does appar call the Lord very smart for eating nothing other than the alms? All the things we offer to God are not enjoyed by God. (If God does, then the absence of offering will make God less happy. So God cannot be ever Blissful.) However through that the only thing God accepts is our love. (Again not for Its benefit, but for the benefit of the soul!) Since love is the cement that would hold the souls with God making them receive the Bliss from God, the all Merciful Lord looks for this bonding, not for It to be more happy, but to put us in Bliss. But for this smartness of our Lord, will we ever be uplifted? Hail that Lord! 3. pozilEum ... kaRRUN kAN c.f. veLippaDa maNNil thiNmai vaiththOn - thiruvAcakam 4. It is notable the name gaNanAthan used many times in this padhikam by appar is used by sundharar also "gaNan^Athan em kALaththiyAy" 5. n^alkuravu - poverty; viyan - grand; pozil Ezu - seven continents. ------------- Name of hara encompass !
