Guest guest
Does this imply that you shouldn't donate to temples that don't have cows either?

Hare Krsna dasi comments: Hmmm... I guess I didn't word that quite the way I meant. On the other hand, it is not possible to make spiritual advancement without protecting the cows, so a devotee should wonder about the potency of a temple which is not involved in cow protection. But I do see an easy way for compromise here, and one which I believe is practiced by some urban temples: That is, they collect funds to support cow protection at a nearby rural Krsna conscious community. What do others think? Is it possible to make spiritual advancement without being involved in cow protection? your servant, Hare Krsna dasi

No, please don't even let that start to circulate :-) There should also be Trusts set up with the Deities as beneficiaries as far as that goes. But I would suggest that every temple, even city ones without cows, set up Trusts to attract donations with Cow Protection as the beneficiaries. The proceeds of the Trust could be used to buy milk from farms with cows at true cost. Thus elevating the quality of bhoga for the Deities and providing funding for expanding the land and capital bases of the farm communities. In one temple at least, I saw that they were proudly using commercial organic food to offer the Deities. Personally, I never buy organic food because it converted from molecules of cow blood, cow bones and other cow slaughter products. However, if city temples were to purchase organic produce from devotee cow farmers, they would know that it was really ahimsa -- fertilized with manure, green manure, etc -- and no cow slaughter products. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi
Guest guest
<<Very nice idea. In one temple at least, I saw that they were proudly using commercial organic food to offer the Deities. Personally, I never buy organic food because it converted from molecules of cow blood, cow bones and other cow slaughter products. So matta, chemical fertilizer is any better then ? Destroying the very environment of humans & animals alike. At least organic agri is doing something constructive to improve our environment. Wheter they use slaughterhouse off-spring or not. It's by far better then chemical stuff... we have to think long term, and not just according to our immediate concerns. If we will have closed down the slaughterhouses, at least we will still have some proper environment to live in. And will be thankfull for the efforts of organic farmers, who we are so much criticizing and boycotting. Or you think it is better to have closed slaughterhouses and a useless environment where noone can live in anymore ? <<However, if city temples were to purchase organic produce from devotee cow farmers, they would know that it was really ahimsa. So, chemical farming is all of a sudden ahimsa or what ? I would say 'not at all' !! It is not only violating the earth, but all of the creatures that live on it aswell. Organic farming practices are by far the best option we have NOW. So, why not support it over the agribusiness stuff ? Or are you fasting ? dirk
