Dear Hare Krsna dasi:

Please accept my humble obeisances, all glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I seem to remember a quote by Srila Prabhupada that in essence says,

'if you do not engage the animals you will kill them', am I mistaken or is

there such a quote?

I think in particular he was taking about engaging the bulls, this is closely

tied to utilizing everything in Krsna's service. Just like in the letter

addressed to Jagadisha June 18, 1974. "But one thing is if we get land we must

first be sure we will be able to fully utilize it, otherwise, if we cannot use

it what is the use?"

I think the quote that you are thinking of is from the Teiyas interview: "Live

in

the Lap of Material Nature and Depend on Krishna" which appeared in one issue

of

the ISKCON Farm News in about 1984.

The quote was something like, "If you do not utilize the oxen, pretty soon you

will be making plans to cut their throat."

Anyway, I'll try to look up the ISKCON Farm News issue and give a better quote.

Also, I'm sure that Chaya and Balabhadra have a copy of it somewhere -- but I'm

not sure whether Balabhadra got Mother Chaya back from her expedition to

Malaysia. I have a feeling that she's the real librarian of ISCOWP!

Anyway, between the three of us, we'll try to find the quote. Also, don't you

have a set of the old ISKCON Farm News?

your servant,

Thank you mata, I do not think I have a complete set of IFN. I do have a quote

that is similar to what I am looking for it just does not match the one that I

remember.

"Prab: Tes. The animals, bulls, will help, instead of that machine. then it is

properly utilized. And others they can not utilize the animal. Therefore what

will they do? Naturally they will send to slaughter house. But we are not

going to send to the slaugherhouse. Then what will you do? They must be

utilized. Otherwise simply for growing for the cows and bulls we are engaging

ourselves? You are already feeling burden because there are so many bull

calves. You were asking me what we shall do with so many bulls." Talk by

Prabhupada in New Talavan, August 1, 1975.
