Guest guest
<< Well, Prabhupada seemed to think it was possible. Otherwise he would not have instructed us to do so. Sure, that's why he provided us with Iskcon. But, within or outside of that, you see it feasible at this very moment yourself ? Especially having children, etc... with no supportive economic and social structure ? I was talking about reality AS IT IS NOW. <<first of all where is requirement for money if you are growing your own things? A shovel, a gravel, a hoe, seeds, a piece of land, a cow, an ox, ox-equipment, waterpump, a house, a barn, a shed, ... need more ? You're a mother, you know the goings & comings of a household. You can grow all of your daily needs ? <<Wood fires are very energy efficient for both heating and cooking. Wood is free, too, if you have some trees. Free ? I don't know where you live, but outhere you'd need a good wage to afford to burn a wood-stove. And if everyone would start burning trees, there would be no forest left in the whole of Belgium soon. This place is full of roads and buildings. And it gets worse month by month... So as far as having your own trees, that is for the already priviliged ! You need a license for each tree you plant or chop here ! And people don't have the space anyway... it is hard enough to find some rag of land to build yourself a house or good agricultural land for farmers. Noone thinks about planting a forest here... it is just way out of reality ! it's all MONEY !! <<There is no statement I made (I hope) that would indicate it doesn't take money to set up. No, but you shouldn't overstep the initial and go straight to your goal. It takes LOADS of money !! And this money is an investement on which you will NEED return ! I'm talking about 270.000 to 550.000 $ here in Belgium for a reasonable farm that could provide you with the basics (and I'm not necessarily talking about making money here, just growing your own stuff)!! Who of us can smack that kind of cash on the table, with no loan ? I don't, but that's the situation I AM facing HERE in Belgium. So, to take a loan without monetary prospects, first of all: won't work at the bank and second of all: is like digging your own grave insted of digging for carrots. We shouldn't paint the picture more beautiful then its... its cheating ! <<But the aim as far as I can understand from Prabhupada's statements, is to become free from dependence on money. Yes, but why we keep focussing on ideals, aims or whatever... it is so FAR away and blinding. We'll get lost being discouraged... lets screen in on the situation AS IT IS and do what is to be done. On our way we'll learn... we are not perfect and defenitely not the world around us. It's a long way and it starts with learning how to get up & crawl. If we live today we'll learn about tommorow !!! << To grow for one's needs and if there is excess trade- that was his directive. Tell that to your bank-manager... <<How far we want to go is up to us, or how far we are able to according to circumstances, but to see if it could actually work completely wouldn't it be far out. Good you mention. But far out things are usually too far away. <<To prove it possible. might be impossible as of yet... <<I have a friend who is buying some land in the next year and I will join her and maybe some others and we will see how far on this path we can go. Give us your blessings. Blessings will come with reality ! You have my best wishes... <<No, it wouldn't, you're right there, it wouldn't. Oh. well for now using a thorn to pull out a thorn... is painfull... but we're so used to it. dirk
