Guest guest
I am a follower of the light (not to be mistaken with impersonalism, rather as distinct from blind following and faultfinding), and, in that sense, I'd like to focus not on which GBC members are indifferent, but which of them is favorable, enthusiastic, receptive, and/or possibly even active toward cow protection. In a democracy, we are to know our leaders' voting records, and we are to influence them. Many devotees have put pressure on the GBC to explain the "poisoning" of Srila Prabhupada. As I wrote on Chakra, it is a strange coincidence that rittviks think Srila Prabhupada's body (ISKCON) was poisoned (ruined) by ISKCON leaders. Unfortunately, this pressure has led to arguments and rebuttals rather than an organic cure and amelioration of the maladies present. I wish all the effort to promote rittvik doctrine and poisoning theories and all the effort to deny those arguments could have been and could be directed toward incorporating cow protection into the society, ISKCON and outside. HK Dasi eloquently states that the training of devotees must include Srila Prabhupada's instructions on cow protection. Of course, the Shrimad Bhagavatam is full of quotes on cow protection. My ears don't remember hearing classes on cow protection though, except in relation to Krishna Himself. The most popular flavor in Los Angeles is book distribution. So, the challenge is to help devotees become conscious of how the milk for the Sunday Feast is obtained. As Hare Krishna dasi asks Prahladananda Maharaja (a book distributor): "What are the names of the cows?" Do any devotees who follow this conference give class? If not, we have to talk the devotees who give class and share our knowledge, realizations, and expectations, so that maybe they will begin speaking about the importance of cow protection in our society. Does anyone feel that it's possible that certain leaders or leaders in general could become cow protectors?

I can't say I am in total agreement with all of Radhanath's programs and ideas, but he did milk cows by hand himself for many, many years, and he has encouraged two of his disciples here in NV to become very involved with the cows.
